At this point iPads do not offer anything that would make this device better than a notebook. This device is virtually a nice looking news print reader and probably a good replacement for a newspaper. This is the only feature that is something entirely new. Tablet computers were introduced quite some time ago and Microsoft has been designing ones for quite a long time now. In my opinion Apple should focus on making the iPad something that would be a great educational tool and would bring reading everyday news to a higher level of interaction.
For now I keep my laptop at hand and wait for how the future of iPad is going to look like. Before I spend a considerable amount of money I want to see the bugs fixed.
